My earliest memories are performing as part of the junior dance troupe in the Hull New Theatre Christmas pantomimes, in local dance and drama festivals and playing the lead mouse in the Scottish Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker.

In 2004 I became a member of the National Youth Theatre and at the age of eighteen I accepted a place to read Drama at The University of Manchester. During my time at university I worked with Bruntwood Prize winner Alistair McDowall appearing as Jane in Nettles (Contact Theatre). I was also nominated for Best Actress at the Manchester In-Fringe Theatre Awards 2009 for my performance as Sally in How Hard It Happens (John Thaw Studio).

Since graduating my theatre credits include Helen in No Wonder (Manchester Library Theatre), Winnie in Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days (Hull Truck Theatre) and Hilary in The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband (East Riding Theatre). I am a company member of She Productions, an all female theatre collective and company in residence at the East Riding Theatre in Beverley. For She I have appeared as Lemon in The Three Kingdoms, Ray in Treat Night, Pea in The StorytEllas and Betsy in It’s Different for Girls.

I am delighted at the success of Northern Lights Drama and to be working with Tilly as the directors of the school.

I quickly caught the performance bug and took part in many productions as a child including Annie, Bugsy Malone and Snow White (Hull New Theatre). I was also chosen to appear as Rafaella in the national tour of Lanza the Last Serenade aged eleven.

I am also a trained dancer and I attended the Yorkshire Ballet Scholars on a weekly basis and I was a member of The Royal Ballet School associates programme up until being eighteen

I waved goodbye to Hull in 2006 after successfully auditioning for drama school at the age of eighteen. I attended the prestigious Arts Educational School of Acting, London and gained my BA HONS in Acting. My drama school credits include Donna in Taking Care of Baby, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Iris in The Love of The Nightingale.

Since graduating I have appeared as Zoe in The Last Room I Checked (The Arcola), Tammy in Ballroom Glitz, Nora in Spacewang (Hull Truck Theatre), Fairy Godmother in Cinderella and Princess Peach in Jack and the Beanstalk (Middle Child Theatre Company at Fruit Space). My film and TV credits include To Be Or Not To Be in Shakespeare Channel 4, Fay in Via Domus, Lacey Howells in the series Watch Over Me and Katy in the Drink Aware Campaign.

Since leaving drama school, I have been teaching at various theatre schools as well as in primary, secondary and special schools. Opening my own independent theatre school has always been my goal.

After completing my A-Levels in Drama & Theatre and Performing Arts I performed in a short educational film with the Humberside Police and through this I gained an agent and began working professionally for Spinoff Productions. Since then I have toured Hull and East Riding with various shows, delivered educational performances and workshops in many primary and secondary schools and filmed instruction videos for companies such as Bausch & Lomb and corporate promotional videos for Ford Retail Ltd.

I am currently studying Drama and Theatre Practice at The University of Hull which has led to many exciting opportunities including performing at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017.

It is a real pleasure working with all of the talented stars at Northern Lights Drama.

Hi, I’m Sue and I began performing in high school. I was part of the chorus to begin with but once I realised I could sing, I then pursued a more musical theatre route. I have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival twice with a musical version of ‘Bouncers’ and an original musical called ‘The Nice Girls’.

I performed as part of a very successful duo for several years travelling all over the country. During this time my partner and I recorded an album of original material.

I then studied in Hull to gain my BA Honours degree in musical theatre which led me on to teaching. I have been both director and musical director for many successful shows at the Riverside Theatre at Hull College including ‘Footloose’, ‘The Addams Family’, ‘Witches of Eastwick’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying’.

Alongside teaching I became part of a local all female comedy group called the Scarlet Lights. We have performed at venues across the region and the Brighton Fringe.

Although I love to perform, I also really love to work with others to develop their technique and become more confident performers.

Having successfully auditioned for the National Youth Theatre in 2005, I went on to read Drama and French with Spanish at University, which also included a year living in Paris.

Following my degree, I gained a place at Drama Studio London, where I trained professionally as an actor and was nominated for the BBC Carleton Hobbs Bursary Award for Radio.

Since graduating from Drama School I have toured nationally to theatres such as The Lyric Hammersmith, Nottingham Playhouse, The Yvonne Arnaud, The Criterion and the Tristan Bates Theatre. During my time in London I also worked in various mainstream primary, secondary and special schools across the city.

As a founding member of She Productions Theatre Company, company in residence at East Riding Theatre, Beverley, I have co-written and performed in shows including The Three Kingdoms and The StorytEllas.

In 2016 I completed a PGCE at the University of York and have subsequently taught French, Spanish and Drama at Hymers College, Hull. I also directed a production of Twelfth Night, one of my favourite plays, for the Shakespeare Schools Festival 2017.

I am thrilled to be joining the NLD team!

Hi, my name is Michaelle and I am originally from Ecuador. I started dancing from a very young age; this was thanks to my mother who saw I had the potential to dance as I was very flexible and picked up movement quickly. Ballet was my first introduction to dance and I also took up gymnastics, figure ice skating and cheerleading.

My true passion, however, is dance and over the years I have trained in commercial, street dance, folk dance, capoeira, contemporary, salsa, and belly dancing. At the age of 16 I enrolled on the performing arts course at Hull College; taking classes in acting, singing and dance. I then made the decision to pursue a career in dance and studied for my dance degree at Hull College, graduating in 2016.

During my three year course I had the opportunity to participate with East Riding Youth Dance and I also worked with Northern Ballet, exploring the process of teaching children. This experience led me to working with young people, teaching dance and passing on my love and enthusiasm for performance.

I am currently undertaking a yoga teacher training course, which has helped me to gain more knowledge about the human body. My yoga training compliments my teaching of dance as I am able to help children to become more flexible, relax, and ultimately help them to believe in themselves and their abilities.

I am extremely excited to be part of the teaching team at Northern Lights Drama and to work with the school’s talented pupils.
