Welcome to Northern Lights Drama School & Agency. We run classes that introduce children and young people to the world of Stage & Screen. At Northern Lights we have a class for everyone. From beginners looking to build their confidence to those hoping to break into the industry. We celebrate all achievements be that performing in class for the first time to landing your first professional acting job.
In our weekly Acting Classes we explore a range of drama focused exercises that teach children the skills needed to perform in theatre, film and television. We also run a Saturday Stage School for pupils looking to learn more about the industry and take their skills to the next level.
Principal of the school, Tilly Miller, trained at Arts Educational School of Acting (BA Hons), London. ‘Growing up, I was always frustrated by the lack of industry focused training, advice and support for aspiring actors from our area like me. I had so many questions and no-one to guide or direct me. All I wanted to do was act! I’d spending hours reading ‘The Stage’, searching for open castings and, when I eventually applied for drama school, it was a minefield. After navigating my way through the industry, I wanted to use my professional knowledge and experience in theatre, film & TV to help talented local children with the same dreams and aspirations as my younger self.”
And so, Northern Lights was founded in 2013 with the aim of providing professional and affordable weekly training, plus much needed advice, guidance and support for those pupils that wanted to progress in the industry. ‘I did not stop. Using the contacts I’d made within the industry I knew that if a young person with potential attended my classes I had to get them seen by the right people. I’m pleased to say that Northern Lights has supported many pupils to secure leading roles in Film, TV and Theatre including Disney, Netflix, BBC, ITV, Amazon Prime, Channel 4, Apple TV, RSC and London’s West End.’
In 2021 NLD launched NLD Management; the region’s only Spotlight approved acting agency providing an exclusive platform for NLD pupils to audition for major roles in film, tv and theatre. The agency works hand in hand with the drama school. This means NLD can train, represent and manage it’s pupils all under one roof. NLD pupils also benefit from regular visits and Q&A sessions with renowned casting and industry professionals giving pupils a real insight into all areas of the industry.

We do not restrict entry through audition as we see our role as developing everyone, irrespective of whether they wish to pursue a professional career or not; our training can help develop a young person’s confidence and interpersonal skills in addition to performing ability.
