Ben Ainsworth (10), from Lund, will appear as a cheeky schoolboy within a classroom scene in Emmerdale on ITV this Tuesday 17th April.
“This is a great achievement for Ben” said Hannah Levy, Head of Acting at Northern Lights Drama Theatre School. “Ben is a very talented actor and we are extremely proud to have one of our pupils appear in this popular tea time soap.”
Ben joined Northern Lights Drama in 2016 and attends the Theatre School’s Holiday Workshops, Masterclasses and weekly LAMDA Examination Classes in Hessle and Production Club in Beverley.
Ben’s dad, Tim Ainsworth, recognises the contribution Northern Lights Drama Theatre School has made to Ben’s professional development. He said: “I am extremely grateful to the team at Northern Lights Drama for their continued support and belief in Ben. Hannah and Tilly are always there to provide help and advice about working professionally in the industry and Ben wouldn’t have achieved so much without their belief in his talent.”
Northern Lights Drama Theatre School has forged strong relationships with reputable theatrical agents who represent a select number of pupils. Before landing the part in Emmerdale, Ben played the role of Benji in Priscilla Queen of the Desert on board the Norwegian Epic Cruise Liner, sailing across the Mediterranean for six weeks. Ben impressed the producers so much he was then asked to play the part again for a further six weeks in the Caribbean.
Ben is very excited to see himself on television: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I had got the part and would be in an episode of Emmerdale. The filming was so much fun and I learnt a lot from the experience. I really love to perform and I can’t wait to see the episode on Tuesday.”
Northern Lights Drama Theatre School does not restrict entry through audition as Hannah and Tilly see their role as developing everyone, irrespective of whether they wish to pursue a professional career or not. Tilly Oakshott, Head of Musical Theatre at Northern Lights Drama Theatre School said “Our classes can help develop a young person’s confidence and interpersonal skills in addition to acting, dance or singing ability. Those like Ben who progress towards professional work in theatre, film and television are prepared for auditions and a career within the industry.”
