New Year launch for Saturday Stage School in Swanland will respond to growing local demand

A local independent theatre school which has helped its pupils secure professional roles in international film, television and theatre productions has just announced the launch of more classes to cope with the demand for extra places at their popular theatre school by expanding its scope with a new Saturday Stage School.

Northern Lights Drama (NLD), the now highly respected East Yorkshire based independent theatre school, was established by local actors Hannah Levy and Tilly Oakshott just six years ago in 2013 and now holds 20 classes for over 300 young people each week.

It has rapidly developed a strong reputation with professional theatrical agents and casting directors which has resulted in pupils securing leading roles in Disney and Netflix global TV series, feature films, UK television and theatre, including London West End hit shows as well as TV commercials; although the school emphasises it is equally beneficial for young people looking to develop their confidence and communication skills, make new friends and have lots of fun.

“We are overwhelmed by the success and popularity of Northern Lights Drama, it has far exceeded our expectations,” said NLD Co-founder and Director Hannah Levy. “I think the fact we are independent and can respond to the different needs of individual pupils, local demand and supporting local primary and secondary schools with their curriculum delivery has been the key to our success.

“In addition we’ve been able to use our connections and reputation to help secure professional leading roles for some of our pupils, which is a huge bonus. We are very proud of them all. Setting up a Saturday Stage School has always been our dream since starting the theatre school in 2013.”

Northern Lights Drama says that its local teaching team of industry professionals brings together over 25 years’ experience in nurturing local talent and inspiring young people to shine through their acting, dance and singing training. Success breeds success and they have had to respond by expanding capacity and launching the Saturday Stage School opening in Swanland in the New Year.

“We feel the time is right to provide a more intensive level of training for young performers in East Yorkshire. Our Saturday Stage School will not only expand our capacity but also offer in-depth tuition in acting, dance and singing under one roof each week” says theatre school Director and Co-founder Tilly Oakshott.

“As we go into our sixth year of business, we now have the right team in place, the perfect venue, experience and reputation as a theatre school to be able to deliver a professional and affordable Saturday Stage School, training the next generation,” added Tilly.

The Saturday Stage School will open in January 2020 at Swanland Primary School where Northern Lights Drama already runs a successful after-school Musical Theatre club. Enrolment is now open via the Northern Lights Drama website for children and young people aged 6 – 18 years which includes a free two weeks trial period at the Saturday Stage School: Book Here or email info@heynld.co.uk or call 01482 641690
